My Surprise Pregnancy

So I figured I should write a little post about what inspired me to get started with my Instagram and blog. I got pregnant by complete surprise last April. I have been in a long term relationship the past seven years, but even at that, babies weren’t on the cards for another couple of years.

I am a huge believer that everything happens for a reason, and falling pregnant with Ellie has been the best thing to happen for both me and her Dad.

This time last year I lived at home, and was working away as a Midwife in one of the busiest maternity hospitals in the country.  I had all the time in the world on my days off to scroll aimlessly online, go shopping, meet my pals for coffee dates etc and do as I pleased. I wouldn’t say I was unhappy, but I would say I lacked direction. I don’t believe that everybody knows exactly where they are headed in life, but I certainly didn’t think my path would change so drastically in such a short space of time.

In the last 10 months, I have gone through a pregnancy, bought a house, and moved out. These are all massive steps to take in life, but I wouldn’t change how any of it has unfolded. To say I am at a point where I feel so content would be an understatement. I feel like I have a purpose in life to be the best mother I can be for Ellie, and to be the best partner I can be with my other half Ben.

Having suffered with depression and an eating disorder in my teens, I never thought I would be at a point to feel such happiness. I also thought that by putting my body through the mill during my teens that trying to conceive would be an issue…. but hey Presto Ellie decided she wanted to enter the world when she did, and I feel so blessed that I was lucky enough not to go through any hardship trying to get pregnant after abusing my body so much in the past.

If anyone is reading this and knows anyone going through and unplanned pregnancy or is themselves, pregnant by surprise, the only thing I can say is “it will all work out!”.

I spent the first trimester of pregnancy so confused and worried about how we would manage. I thank my lucky stars everything worked out. Having a healthy baby was one blessing, but for everything else to fall into place still amazes me.

Positive mindset is so important. If you haven’t read ‘The Secret’, I urge you to! That book changed my life. It’s a book I always go back to when I lack clarity in my thoughts, and feel negativity creep in. The book teaches you to look at everything positively, and by doing so, positive things will happen.

I know this post is a bit rambly, but in essence, don’t be afraid of things that unexpectedly come into life. Try your best to seek clarity, think positively, and the rest will sort itself out!
